The Buffalo Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting more than 40 people who are now homeless following an arson fire at a boarding house in Niagara Falls.

Police arrested and charged Jerome Wingfield with arson, burglary, and reckless endangerment after he allegedly started the the fire in a second floor apartment, with a specific individual targeted.

Authorities say that Wingfield had a previous domestic relationship with the targeted individual, and he started the fire in that person's bedroom.

Authorities also have another man from Niagara Falls in custody, who they believe is a co-conspirator in the case.

The displaced residents are temporarily being housed at the Howard Johnson on 3rd Avenue, and case workers will be in touch.
