So you've made a New Year's resolution to lose weight and keep it off. He we are, a month into the new year and you find your self slipping. Of the 45% of Americans who make this resolutions, only 8% are actually successful. Let's increase that number with these 5 simple steps.

1) Keep moving and be active at least 30 minutes a day.

My doctor told me that if I just go for a 30 minute walk every day, it would make a world of difference. Just walking 30 minutes a day will boost your metabolism, burn calories, improve sleep, and build muscles along with decreasing stress.

2) Limit you sugar intake and avoid artificial sweeteners.

Artificial sweeteners should be completely avoided and you should limit yourself to just 18 grams of sugar per snack. You can check the label for that.

3) Don't Eat So Much!

Take a look at your balled up fist. That's how much your stomach can hold without expanding. Eating too much can prevent weight loss, but eating too little is also not good as well...see next step.

4) It's okay to eat something every 3-4 hours or up to five times a day.

The five times you eat should be breakfast, lunch, dinner, and two snacks. Make them of real food, small portion size meals, and, the snacks can be nuts like peanuts or pistachios. Why not try a small bowl of fresh fruit or some healthy chips?

5) Don't Skip Breakfast!

Eat some sort of breakfast within one hour waking up as it will improve your metabolism and increase calorie burning capability. Even if you grab something on the go, remember, don't skip breakfast!

And just one more tip I learned from Myo Nwe, M.D. and Sandeep Grewal M.D. inventors of the SlimPlate System.  Drink lots of water! This is the easiest thing to do. When you eat, add a glass of water to each meal. It will help you eat less because you'll feel full. Plus, add three more glasses of water into you daily intake and watch the pounds melt off, and stay off.
