Buffalo Observes Columbus Day
It was way, way back in 1492 that Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue.As America observes Columbus Day, it was forty-six years ago, in 1968, that President Lyndon Johnson signed legislation to establish the second Monday in October as a federal holiday.
As a local tribute to Christopher Columbus, a wreath-laying ceremony was held on Sunday afternoon at the Columbus monument on Porter Avenue, followed by a parade in North Buffalo.
