Apple's new iPhone will apparently drop the wide dock connector used in the company's gadgets for the best part of a decade for a smaller one, a boon for accessory makers, but a move that may annoy Apple customers.

This means the new phone would not connect with the accessories you probably now own such as speakers and power chargers without an adaptor.

"Apple needs to find a solution not to disappoint their current clients who want to upgrade to the new iPhone, but are tied to an expensive accessory they have bought," said Franciso Jeronimo, London-based analyst at technology research firm IDC.

"I believe Apple will come up with some sort of adaptor so the new iPhone can be used with previous connectors."

The iPhone 5 is expected to be released in October.
