So we continue our series of places for Moms to take the family in WNY. Ever take Rt. 16 South to Main street in Arcade NY? There you will find the historic Arcade & Attica railroad. If your kids like to play with trains - like my son Derek USED to many years ago! - they will love this ride!

You can take special excursions, some powered by their steamer, others by their vintage WW2 era diesel engine. Regular rides last about 2.5 hours with a 30 minute stop for food at the halfway mark. They run from Memorial Day weekend until the last full weekend of September. The month of October is when I usually take my son Derek - the fail foliage you see is amazing - and they operate on an extended scheduled. They also do a ride on a 'real train to the North Pole' leading up to Christmas that has gotten some good reviews, some not so good.

My thought is this - it's a nice ride down route 16 anyway (if you keep gong on 16 you end up in Olean!) - especially in the Fall. And if your kids have never been on a train - I would say spend the $30 and give them a ride this summer. A ton of you like me already have certain 'dates' marked on your 2016 calendar, and marking 1 to take a train ride this summer is certainly worth it!
