Former ‘Deadpool 2’ Director Tim Miller Now Making a ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ Movie
Because video game movies are becoming the new superhero movies, we’re getting a Sonic the Hedgehog film. And who better to develop it than Tim Miller, who recently has some unexpected time on his hands since quitting the Deadpool sequel. He won’t be directing, though — it’ll be Jeff Fowler, his Blur Studios colleague, who will be making his directorial debut with this film
Try Not to Tap Your Foot While Listening to Alessia Cara’s New ‘Moana’ Number
With Disney’s Moana less than a month away, the excitement for the studio’s latest animated high-seas adventure is gaining momentum. Disney previously released a clip of Dwayne Johnson singing the delightfully boastful “You’re Welcome,” and a few days ago another song was released on YouTube, this time sung by Canadian pop star Alessia Cara.
Petition Launched for Quentin Tarantino to Direct ‘Deadpool 2’ After Tim Miller’s Exit
When Tim Miller exited Deadpool 2 over creative differences (with Ryan Reynolds, of all people!) we were pretty shocked. The first Deadpool was great, an R-rated, funny, and blood-soaked respite from the formula we’ve come to expect from Marvel, and the prospect of a sequel was equally as exciting. But with Miller’s exit, Deadpool’s future has become a little more uncertain — so uncertain, that fans have set up their own petition to get Quentin Tarantino for the sequel instead.
Check Out the ‘Power Rangers’ Heads in the New Motion Poster
We’ve seen them in all their gear, but we haven’t seen the new Power Rangers with their cool visors down — until now. Yesterday, the official Power Rangers movie Twitter account unveiled a new motion poster that shows off the Power Rangers’ cool helmets and what they look like when they’re in full Ranger mode.
’Jurassic World 2’ Currently Casting More Kids for Dinosaurs to Scare
We’ve gotten tons of information about the vague feel of J.A. Bayona’s Jurassic World 2 — it’ll deal, metaphorically, with the modern-day treatment of animals — but we haven’t heard much about the actual plot. Today, though, it sounds like Universal is finally getting the ball rolling with news of an open casting call for a child actor. Jurassic World attempted to update the franchise for modern audiences, but at least one tradition has stayed the same: it’s not a Jurassic Park movie without kids running form dinosaurs.
‘Resident Evil: The Final Chapter’ International Trailer Has All the Greatest Hits
Alice is back. Dr. Isaacs is back. The Red Queen is back. That laser hallway is back. Those dogs that grow increasingly worse in every installment of the franchise are back. All your favorites are returning for Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, and the latest trailer has invited old friends and new for the last outing of the series.
Leonardo DiCaprio Is Headed South Once Again for ‘Truevine’
Wondering when Leonardo DiCaprio would be heading back to the Deep South? Since his villainous turn in Django Unchained, the actor has appeared in New York City as two very different multimillionaires, and was mauled by a bear in the 1800s Dakota Territory. But now he’ll be returning to the South and a tobacco farm during the era of Jim Crow.
Disney’s ‘Lion King’ Remake Taps Veteran Screenwriter Jeff Nathanson
With the news that Jon Favreau was directing a live-action remake of arguably THE most popular Disney movie of all time, The Lion King, people were undoubtedly excited. Favreau successfully launched the Marvel Cinematic Universe with 2008’s Iron Man, believed by many to still be the best Avengers movie, and has had a few notable successes since, including Chef in 2014 and this summer’s almost-entirely-CGI remake of The Jungle Book. The latter did so well that Disney hired Favreau again to direct The Lion King, and today it was announced that the film has found a screenwriter.
‘Jurassic World 2’ Will Be a Metaphor for the Modern Treatment of Animals
The universe that Michael Crichton and Steven Spielberg created with 1993’s Jurassic Park is a world ripe with all kinds of possibilities. What would a world in which the resurrection of extinct species is a reality be like? Can an ostensibly foolproof system of controlling these creatures and making sure they don’t escape their enclosures really work? (No.) Does life, uh, find a way? (Yes.) This summer’s Jurassic World chose to tell a simpler, more action-y tale than its predecessors, but from what Colin Trevorrow has said about its sequel, Jurassic World 2 will take a more nuanced approach to the possibilities of genetically resurrected dinosaurs.
J.K. Rowling Tries Her Best at American History in a New Pottermore Story Ahead of ‘Fantastic Beasts’
Much of the appeal of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter website Pottermore lies in the extra bits the site dishes out from time to time, often from Rowling herself, as she expands on the Wizarding World’s universe. To prepare us all for the imminent Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, she’s published a few short histories of magic in America, where the film takes place. Today, she came out with another about the formation of MACUSA, the governing body of magic in the U.S., and how it fits in with American history as we know it.
Witness the ‘Black and Chrome’ Edition of ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ at SpectreFest
Mad Max: Fury Road is one of the most visually stunning action movies ever made, partly because George Miller eschewed the grays-and-browns trend of post-apocalyptic movies. Fury Road drips with vibrant oranges, reds, and blues that provide a stunning technicolor backdrop for our heroes’ race through the desert. But according to Miller, the best version of the film is one he made without any color at all: the “Black & Chrome Edition” of the film has been teased ever since its release, and it’ll be coming to video stores with a special Blu-ray release after a theatrical debut at this year’s SpectreFest.
Alejandro Inarritu Is Doing VR, Will Turn Us All into Revenants
Alejandro González Iñárritu has forever been one step ahead of the curve, always keen to try out new and different ways of filmmaking, and he’s not stopping now. His latest project sees him teaming up with the frequent collaborator and cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki (The Revenant, Birdman) as they delve into film’s final frontier: virtual reality.
