An Erie County Sheriff's Officer acted fast to rescue a baby that was left alone in a hot car.

Police were called to the Dollar General Store on Main Road in Newstead just after 3:00P.M. on Monday, when first responders saw that the baby was sweating and in distress. The officer then broke one of the windows to rescue the baby, and placed the one-year-old in his air conditioned vehicle.

Additional police officers responded to the scene where they located and arrested the child's mother, 24-year-old Lindsey Wozniak of Clarence. She was charged with misdemeanor acting in a manner to injure a child less than 17-years-old. Police also notified Child Protective Services.

The child was placed in the custody of his grandmother, who is the legal guardian, and Lindsey was released on an appearance ticket to appear in court at a later date.
