First, some tips for parents according to National Louis University (and you can find MORE tips here).

  1. Be on time every day, especially for the first month. It sets a precedence and habit, and kid's performances increase with the structure.
  2. Email the teacher to put your kid on their rada, and let them know you're approachable and engaged.
  3. Plan the night before, since it's easy for school mornings to get out of control quickly. Each kid should have a place for their things the night before, so they can grab and go.
  4. Don't hover with homework, unless the teacher specifically asks you to help work through every problem.

I used to get SUPER excited for back to school....loved the new clothes, new classrooms, new teachers, new everything!

I don't know, though, if I was ever THIS enthusiastic.

Finally, if EVERY kid was encouraged to do something like this, we're in for a WORLD of a wonderful future.

A FIVE-year-old boy in New Jersey saved up his allowance for seven months.  Not because he wanted to buy himself a new scooter, but because he wanted to buy lunch for his local police department.

Melt my heart, why dontcha.
