Think of all the times you've headed down Broadway through Lancaster and Alden to Darien Lake for a concert.  Or when you've used Southwestern Boulevard to get to the Ralph Wilson Stadium for a Buffalo Bills game. What do those two roads have in common?

They're both designated U-S Route 20.

Something you may have never known about Route 20 -- it's the longest highway in the country.  Starting in Kenmore Square in downtown Boston, Massachusetts, it extends westward across eleven states until it comes to an end in Newport, Oregon, just a mile from the Pacific Ocean.

Spanning the states of Massachusetts and New York, a small section of Pennsylvania, then through Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho and Oregon, US Route 20 is 3,365 miles long. It runs roughly along the same route as Interstate 90, which at 3,099 miles is the longest Interstate in the country.

Before construction of the New York State Thruway and the Massachusetts Turnpike, Route 20 was known as the Boston-Buffalo Highway.

Route 20 also takes you through Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. Originally Route 20 ended at the eastern entrance to the park. The highway was extended in 1940.
