Bills GM Doug Whaley Doesn’t Think Humans Should Play Football
Okay, take this with a grain of salt – it's not like the Buffalo Bills GM is saying the sport should pack up and hand it over to the Kitten Bowl. However, he does make a reasonable point when talking about injuries.
Doug Whaley was asked if he was concerned about Sammy Watkins being injury-prone (he's had several injuries in his career, from his ankles to his hip to his shoulder). Looking at the big picture, Sammy only missed three games. But Whaley went on to say...
...injuries are part of it and it's a violent game that I personally don't think humans are supposed to play, and these things are going to come up.
Again, in my opinion, I don't think he's saying we should switch to robots, but he does make a reasonable case that football IS a violent sport where athletes are doing things their bodies aren't made to do.
Think he may be getting a call from NFL offices? Think he makes a point? Think he's way off base? Think those are damning statements?
By the way, there are new media policies in place for reporting on the Buffalo Bills. See them here.
