The proposal for Buffalo-area bars to close at 2am instead of 4am has failed, The Buffalo News reports.

Three Republican lawmakers voted for the earlier bar-closing: Legislator Ted Morton, R-Cheektowaga, Kevin R. Hardwick of the city of Tonawanda and John J. Mills of Orchard Park, the Legislature chairman.

Opposing the measure: Majority Leader Joseph Lorigo, C-West Seneca,Legislator Edward A. Rath III, R-Amherst,, Lynne M. Dixon, I-Hamburg, and Democrats Peter J. Savage III, Barbara Miller-Williams, Betty Jean Grant and Patrick B. Burke of Buffalo.
