Buffalo Stores Banned From Selling Microbead Products On February 14th

Stores in Erie County will soon be banned from selling products with microbeads, and could face legal trouble if they do not abide by the law.

February 14th is the official cut-off date for stores to sell microbead products, and officials in Erie County are asking anyone who sees products being in stores is asked to report the store to cleanwaterways@erie.gov.

The Microbeads-Free Waters Act of 2015 was unanimously passed by the U.S. Senate in December, and the bill was later signed by President Obama.

According to studies, the plastic beads have been known to pollute waterways, including the Great Lakes.
