There will be 16 museums and galleries in Western New York that will offer FREE admission on Saturday, September 26, for National Museum Day!

They do require registration with Smithsonianmag.com for a printable ticket so make sure to bring that along with you.

In the meantime here are my five favorite museums in the area to check out that day...for FREE!

1.  Albright-Knox Art Gallery -- The Albright-Knox Art Gallery is dedicated to enhancing the understanding and appreciation of contemporary and modern art. As a hub of artistic and cultural energies, it strives to be an inspiring educational resource for all audiences.

2.  Buffalo History Museum -- Since 1862, The Buffalo History Museum (formerly known as the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society) has been Western New York’s premier historical organization, serving to collect, research, interpret and share the Niagara Frontier’s rich history. Its collections include more than 100,000 artifacts, 200,000 photographs and 20,000 books.

3. Buffalo-Niagara Heritage Village -- Covering 35-acres, tour historical homes, a rural church and one-room schoolhouses from the Buffalo Niagara region. Interact with costumed interpreters who will graciously welcome you to our quaint Village and show you what life was like in the 19th century. Visit the working blacksmith shop and watch in amazement as members of the New York State Designer Blacksmiths perform daily demonstrations.

4.  The Colored Musicians Club Of Buffalo -- The club offers some of the best jazz you can find. It is open to non-members who want to share a love of jazz and are seeking a relaxing time in a friendly place.

5.  Burchfield Penney Art Center -- The Burchfield Penney features more than 30 exhibitions annually.
