Cheektowaga Police are investigating a weekend incident in which an officer used "deadly physical force."

Authorities from Wyoming County notified Cheektowaga Police around 10:00P.M. on Saturday that a man with a stolen hand gun may be in the area.

Cheektowaga police then located the man in the parking lot of the Best Western Hotel on Genesee Street around 11:00P.M. A responding officer was immediately confronted by the armed man, and was "required to use deadly force to defend himself," according to authorities.

The 34-year-old man from Wyoming County was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he died a short time later.

A hand gun was recovered from the scene, and it appears to be the stolen gun from Wyoming County.

According to company policy, the 16-year veteran Cheektowaga police officer was put on paid administrative leave while the investigation continues.
