‘Christmas Crack’ — A Step-By-Step Tutorial For Dummies (And Smart People Alike) [PHOTOS]
I make it every year.
Every year people think I'm some kind of Willy Wonka magician or something.
It's THAT good. And it's SO simple, I almost don't want to give away my magician-secret....but it's the season for giving...so here's the most simple, step-by-step tutorial I could've possibly come up with!
(and if you LOVE chocolate and sweets in general...don't forget your Chocolate Affair tickets! Sells out every year! Makes a great gift!!!)
You need:
Sleeves of saltines
2 sticks of butter
1 cup brown sugar
1 bag semi-sweet chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 400.
Line a baking sheet with foil, and line that with plain ol' saltine crackers.
Melt 2 sticks of butter....
Stir in 1 cup of brown sugar, bring to boil. Allow to boil for 3 minutes. No shorter, no longer! (It will be brownish in color and a bit foamy)
Pour mixture over the crackers. Don't worry, it's going to separate a bit.
GENTLY spread it around with a wooden spoon
Put the whole thing in the oven for 5 minutes. No shorter, no longer.
Sprinkle 1 bag (or half a large bag) of semi-sweet chocolate chips over it.
Give it a few minutes...they'll start to melt. "BUT LAURA MINE AREN'T MELTING!!" Oh they are...just wait.....then, grab a rubber spatula and start spreading it out gently.
Spread it all over, and let it cool (I put mine in the garage....just be sure to keep it out of animals' reach!!!)
Let it cool at LEAST 6 hours...the butter needs to set and can't be "gummy". Once it's cooled, break it into pieces, and share with the world!
*or not. ;)
