You don't need me to tell you to expect some strange and interesting culinary concoctions at the Erie County Fair...in fact, looking back at my time on "food row" yesterday, I'm not sure people even go for rides and games anymore! It's all about food...and what you can fry!

My friend Liz and I first took a surveying stroll along the vendors to really shape up an eating plan. We didn't want to blow it all on the first stop.

I'm on a low-carb/no sugar diet, so I vowed I would do whatever I could to stick to that, within reason. Everything in moderation, right? No such thing at the Fair. But I did start off good, with the typical "marinated chicken on a stick" (didn't go with the "PIG BUTT on a stick" as this short video suggests...)

(I also tracked down what seems to be a GREAT replica of fair-chicken marinade. Check it out here.)

Since I was so good with the chicken on a stick, I kinda figured I "deserved" a treat....and I moved to the shack my friend Dean had recommended: "Fried Garlic Mashed Potatoes On A Stick". Verdict: a bit too much rosemary, but overall, worth a try (split it...they're HUGE).

As if all this wasn't enough, we had to bring out the big guns when we saw the word "BACON". On said sign were a few choices: chocolate-covered bacon (don't knock it 'til ya try it), bacon candy and finally, "BACON BOMB". Our curiosity was piqued, so we went with it.

This softball-sized treat is a thick, crunchy, fried shell housing a mashed-potato-consistency mixture of peanut butter, chocolate and bacon bits. Sound gross, right?

Well, honestly, it wasn't TERRIBLE...but really only tasted the peanut butter. Every other bite, you get a small "smokey" flavor in the back of your throat, but that was it. So really, it was a fried peanut butter dough ball with red, flavorless flecks. Something Elvis would probably adore....many, many times.

There were MANY other choices (Red Velvet Funnel Cake with Cream Cheese Icing?!?!?! OMG!!!!!!), but we were WAY to full from our three choices to get anything else. It was worth it though.

SO...what's been YOUR favorite so far???
