Even though gas prices about 30% lower than this time last year, thieves are still trying to scam their way into free fuel. (By the way, neither of those pictured above are crooks in any way...stock photo). But, be aware, this scam could happen to you if you're not observant.


KTVU -

Imagine you pull up, open up, insert nozzle and squeeze as nothing enters the tank. By the time you realize, the thief on the other side has filled up on your dime. This has happened many times in California. How?

KTVU tells us that, crooks are simply crossing gas pump hoses, and then filling up as an unsuspecting customer puts in their credit card.

So take a look and be sure your hose is going into your car before you put in your card.
