Dating 101 – What to Ask and Listen For

Patti Novak has been running one of the most successful dating services in the country for several years and has been featured on Oprah and her own television series “Confessions of a Matchmaker”. Now Patti brings what she has learned to 96.1 Joy FM.

Question: I’m finally out there dating again, and can’t seem to get past the first date without gaps of awkward quiet time.  What are some questions or tools to fill in those gaps that will help me get to know him or her better?

Basic questions: (1st. date)

Where did you grow up?
How many brothers and sisters do you have?
Where did you go to high school/college?
Where do you work?

Character questions: (1st or 2nd date)

3 famous people you admire?
What values and principles are important to you when developing a friendship?
What are important world values to you?
(Be careful not to get into political and religious views.)

Compatibility questions: (2nd date)

How do you like to spend an evening during a work week?
How do you like to spend vacation time?
How do you spend time/holidays with your family?
What do you like when it comes to TV, movies, internet, music, bands?
