A study from 2013 had "normal drinkers" stop drinking for ONE MONTH.

After just one month, they lost an average of 3.5 pounds, slept better, found it easier to concentrate, were less likely to develop diabetes,  and had lower cholesterol levels.  The amount of fat in their livers also was reduced by 15%, whic hi s important since a fatty liver can lead to liver disease.

But that's not where the benefits of a "dry January" stop....

A more recent study found not drinking for a month can actually change your drinking patterns too.  After 6 months, 2/3 of those who committed to not drinking for one month were still drinking significantly less than they did before they took part in the study.

By the way, the other third?  They couldn't make it through the month without a drink.
