Drones seem to be one of the most popular Christmas gifts this year, and as their popularity continues to grow, so does the number of regulations for using them.

Starting today (12/21/2015), all drones and unmanned aircraft will have to be registered through the Federal Aviation Administration.

You can register your drone for free through January 20, 2016 by visiting faa.gov

Those who do not comply with the registration process can face a fine up to $27,500 from the FAA, and any criminal activity with the use of a drone can result in a fine of up to $250,000 or even jail time.

***Currently drone owners have until February 19, 2016 to register, and new owners have to register before the first flight.
