In Western New York it feels like winter can strike and strike hard at any moment and with little notice. So sometimes it's nice to have a heads up on when the white flurries are coming and how much can we expect. After all with Labor Day just around the corner, we know that our nice summer weather won't be with us for much longer!

The 2017 U.S. long-term forecast by the Farmer's Almanac is calling for a colder than normal winter with above normal precipitation and normal snowfall.

For Buffalo and Western New York? According to the Farmer's 2017 Almanac, starting with November 2016, winter will be "warmer than normal, with above-normal precipitation." Apparently, December to mid-January will be the coldest.

Snowfall is expected to be "above normal" in New York. We should apparently anticipate the snow in mid-November, late December, early and late January, mid-February, and early March, which basically sounds like we should expect snow for the entire season.

"April and May will be warmer and slightly drier than normal," according to the Farmer's Almanac. While summer is expected to be "slightly cooler and rainier than normal".

For the week of Aug. 24 to Aug. 31, the Farmer's Almanac predicts sunny east, a few thunderstorms, turning hot; so we'll see how accurate it is!
