The Erie County Department of Environment & Planning will host a drug drop-off event on Saturday, April 25 2015 from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital.

The event is free of charge and gives residents a safe disposal alternative for products, including unwanted or expired prescription or over-the-counter medications, syringes, inhalers, liquids, ointments, or patches.

“These collection events are a good way for residents to protect themselves, their families, and the environment,” said Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz said in a press release. “Storing expired and unwanted medications in the home increases the risk of accidental poisoning, or of these medications being stolen.

"In addition, the detection of prescription drug residues in drinking water raises concerns about the importance of protecting our water supply by not flushing drugs down the drain. Proper collection and incineration of these medicines protects our water and public safety.”

Erie County is partnering with the office of NYS Senator Michael Ranzenhofer, the Town of Amherst Police Department, Kaleida Health-Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Covanta Energy, and Tops Pharmacies in this event.

WHEN: Saturday, April 25, 2015 from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

WHERE: Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, 1540 Maple Rd., Williamsville NY 14221
