The manhunt for escaped inmates Richard Matt and David Sweat brought hundreds of Federal, State and Local Police Officers to Friendship, NY over the weekend.

Authorities received what they believed to be a credible tip from a resident in Allegany County who claims that she spotted two men, who fit the description of Matt and Sweat, on the railroad tracks near Route 20.

The presence of law enforcement in the area was massive in the hours that followed the siting. Officers held several road blocks, while searching vehicles, homes and garages.

After nearly 48 hours of non-stop searching, the manhunt in Allegany County was called off around 9:00 p.m. on Sunday.

However, new information developed overnight and a new lead arose that Richard Matt and David Sweat may still be in the area near the prison. Law enforcement investigators are saying that a person reported seeing the escaped inmates near the Clinton Correctional Facility on Saturday, and on Sunday "forensic evidence" confirmed that David Sweat was in the area.

The manhunt quickly shifted back to the North Country, and evidence is suggesting that at least one of the convicts had broken into a home in the area around Owls Head (about an hours drives west of the Clinton Correctional Facility).
