This will most likely be the coldest weekend of 2015. Weather forecasters are calling for temperatures to plummet to depths not reached here in years. Meteorologists say a Siberian air mass will gather around the North Pole and reach into Western New York over the weekend.

The Buffalo News Reports:

Sunday’s daytime high – forecasts alternate between zero and one degree – will be sandwiched between a pair of nights when the temperature will be well below zero. Wind chill readings will drop again to dangerous levels.

This kind of cold comes around only a few times a century. Only twice in the last 50 years has the thermometer failed to make it above zero at some point during the day – Jan. 19, 1994 and Jan. 17, 1982.

So staring tonight, Thursday February 12th, 2015, break out the long johns, hats and gloves, and be prepared for bitter, bitter cold throughout Western New York.

Go ahead, turn up the thermostat a little bit and be prepared for extreme cold conditions for at least the next week or so.
