As if building a 33,000-square-foot ice rink at Canalside wasn't enough to create a downtown Buffalo buzz, along comes ice bikes. The bikes have been modified to act like ice skates and they've become an immediate hit. Hurry though if you'd like to try one as the rink closes after this weekend

I just had to visit and glide onto the ice at Canalside to find out just what all the buzz is about. I discovered that the bikes are sturdy and will not tip over. They can be on the ice along with ice skaters as they are easy to direct. Basically they work like skis.
The Huffington Post reports:

The finished product is a 26-inch bike that sits on a rectangular base with a duller blade replacing the front wheel. Stainless steel so they don't rust in the snow, they ride like a regular bicycle, only without the need to balance. Riders brake by pedaling backward.

If you're interested in going on a glide, you'll be paying $10 for a half-hour spin. Enjoy!
