New Years traditions can be unusual. Like foods you're supposed to eat on New Years day to bring you good luck in the coming year. For example.

Pork: the reason, Pigs root for food, they keep their feet planted and push their snouts forward. That means progress and prosperity. Go figure

Noodles: eat long noodles on New Years day in order to achieve long life. But don't break the noodle before eating or all bets are off!

Fish: people associate fish with moving forward because they swim in schools and always swim forward.

Black-Eyed Peas; common in the south, thought to bring prosperity because they look like coins.

Grapes: popular in Spanish speaking countries. Eat 12 grapes for every strike of the clock at midnight.

Happy New Year and good eating!
