Grandma's Christmas Cutouts

- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 3/4 cups flower
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 tsp. baking powder

Cream butter, sugar, egg and vanilla. Gradually add flour/baking powder mixture. Chill dough for about 30 minutes. Roll small amount out on flour surface to about 1/8 thickness and cut out shapes with cookie cutters. Bake at 350 degrees for 7-10 minutes on an ungreased cookie sheet. Time depends on oven and size of cutout. Cool.

Buttercream Frosting

- 1 stick butter
- 1 lb. powder sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- Milk

Cream butter and vanilla. Add powdered sugar a little at a time along with small amounts of milk. Repeat until sugar all sugar is added and frosting is to desired consistency (too much milk will make it soupy).

Divide frosting into different containers and add food coloring. Frost each cookie and decorate with sprinkles. When frosting is dry store cookies in air tight containers.

This has been in our family for years. I have tasted others, but no one compares! It's a lot of work, but you can make dough ahead of time and keep in the refrigerator. MERRY CHRISTMAS!
