A new survey says America is the second most charitable country in the world this year, second only by the people of Myanmar.

Obviously charities raise a LOT of their money at this time of year.

Unfortunately it's also open season for SCAMMERS!

If you get a call from a charity you don't recognize, here are five things to look for that serve as red flags that they may be a scam:

  1. They offer very vague information about what they do and where your money's going.
  2. They can't prove your donation will be tax-deductible.
  3. Their name is a lot like a well-known organization, but just slightly different (IE instead of the World Wildlife Fund, they're the "Worldwide Wildlife Fund"...Just something we made up, but you get the point.
  4. They thank you for your previous donation, that you don't remember making. Don't just take their word for it and assume you forgot.
  5. They try REALLY hard to get you to donate that MINUTE.
