Is Your Dog Afraid of Thunder and Lightning?

What is your dog afraid of? When the storms began rolling through Western New York early this morning, thunder and lightning rocked our house, and my poor puppy Bella began to shake. I feel so bad for Bell. There doesn't seem to be anything we can do to help ease her anxiety when a storm strikes.

I woke up for work about 3:15 a.m.  The storm rolled through shortly after, and our little "chug" Bella began following me nervously around the house. (I call her a chug because she is part chihuahua and part pug.) I snapped this photo this morning as she sat with me while I got myself ready for the day.  I hated to leave her home with everyone else still asleep.

Is there anything you can do to help when a dog is so afraid? By the way, she's also afraid of the vacuum and the lawn mower!
