November 14 is National American Teddy Bear Day!

morgueFile (Burns)

The legend goes that in 1902 President Teddy Roosevelt spared the life of a bear cub while on a big game hunt in Mississippi. As the word got out, many folks were impressed by the kindness shown by the avid hunter.

The story continues that Clifford Berryman, a political cartoonist then made a drawing of the incident and the “Teddy” Bear was born. The drawing was entitled, “Drawing the line in Mississippi”.

Some folks have quite the collection of Teddy Bears. Feel free to post pictures on our Facebook Page of your favorite!
