Did you remember? Today is National Boss Day! The day to honor the man or woman in charge happens on October 16th. If it falls on a weekend, it celebrated on the working day closest.

National Boss Day was started in 1958 by an employee at a State Farm Insurance office in Deerfield, Illinois. Her name was Patricia Bays Haroski. She was the one who officially registered the holiday with the Chamber of Commerce of the United States. She chose October 16 because it was her father's birthday. Her main reason was to have a day honoring the boss was to show appreciation, but she also believed that sometimes employees do not realize the challenges bosses face in running a business.

By the way, it wasn't until 1979 that Hallmark added a line of Bosses Day cards. I know I'll be heading to the store to get something nice for my boss. My wife would never forgive me if I forgot!
