If you purchased a Kidde smoke alarm between September 2016 and January 2018, they may be faulty, and not detect a fire in your home.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, "452,000 Kidde smoke alarms sold in the U.S. are potentially being recalled because they may not alert people to a fire."

See the full recall notice here.

WGRZ reports, "the recall applies to Kidde dual-sensor (photoelectric and ionization) smoke alarms, models PI2010 and PI9010. The alarms were sold at Menards, Home Depot, Walmart and other department, home and hardware stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com, ShopKidde.com and other websites from September 2016 through January 2018."

Even if the smoke alarms in your home are not subject to recall, the US Fire Administration recommends testing your alarms once a month, and changing batteries every 6-12 months.
