Lady Gaga is no stranger to the national anthem, having belted out a stirring and emotional rendition of the all-American song during New York City's LGBT Pride Rally in 2013. Tomorrow, however, the songstress with make her debut appearance at the 2016 Super Bowl where she will sing "The Star-Spangled Banner" for an audience of millions watching.

In celebration of her Super Bowl 50 participation, Mother Monster sat down with Nate Burleson from the NFL Network for an intimate interview about the upcoming performance on Sunday. When asked what she was thinking when she first found out she got the job, Gaga shares, "I was so excited, it's such an honor and a total dream come true. I've always wanted to sing the national anthem at a major sporting event since I was a little girl... And for it to be the super bowl is just kind of the ultimate."

Burleson and Gaga also discussed the anthems of Super Bowl past. As for which one stands out most to her? "For me it was Whitney Houston. When I was little I used to stand at the top of my staircase and sing along with her version at home. The more I would sing it my dad would say, 'You're getting pretty good, kid!' So to be here now and sing it to America is just wonderful."

"This is one of the highest honors of my career," she continues, adding, "I get a chance to sing for all the athletes who have been working so hard their whole lives for this moment, the coaches, as well as the fans in the stands who are waiting for this moment and I think it marks really what being an American is all about: working hard and that being the ultimate pay off for the champion is hard work.

And if you're wondering what sort of direction she's planning on going with the performance, it seems like Gaga will be keeping it classic: "I have to live up to a song that stands the test of time. I think the best way to do that is kind of forget about yourself and focus on what it means... There's no greater honor than standing next to the color guard, the flag, the army and the military and singing the national anthem for the greatest athletes in the country. That's rock n' roll."

What's also rock n' roll? Laughing at the mention of her "passion for football" during an NFL interview.
