I like to say I'll try anything once.

I actually do try to do one thing every day that scares me or makes me uncomfortable...it's something I believe encourages constant growth.  If you're not growin, you're dyin.

I was invited to my first ever meat raffle on Sunday.  It's definitely not something I'd normally do, and the thought of it did make me a little uncomfortable.  So, opportunity for growth? Here I come!

It was at the Knights of Columbus in Hamburg, and benefited West Seneca Magic girls' softball.

Upon walking in, I was greeted with several opportunities for OTHER raffle tickets -- from door prizes, to a 50/50, to extra bonus prizes.  So out of the gate, I was out $20. Then there's long tables set up, where the real magic happens.

People bring cheese and cracker platters, Crock-Pots, sandwiches...it's basically tailgating inside.  Also, much like at Bingo parlors, some people had "good luck" charms in the form of funny burger hats....

The raffles begin, and they get contentious at times...but then, the MACK DADDY of MEAT comes -- the grand finale.  This is where all the meat that HASN'T been raffled is displayed on an enormous table, tickets are called with MULTIPLE winners...and it's a free-for-all.  First come, first serve. Here's a few videos....

(BTW, keep up on where other meat raffles are taking place here!)

Here's a photo gallery of my much-luckier friends who actually scored big!
