Laura's #1 Track Throwback takes us back 15 years with Try Again by Aaliyah.

Aaliyah Dana Haughton was best known as a singer, dancer, actress and model who received her jump into show business while appearing on Star Search at age 10.

Just two years later, 12-year-old Aaliyah signed with Jive Records and her uncle Barry Hankerson's Blackground Records. She went on to record her debut album Age Ain't Nothing but a Number under the guidance of her lead songwriter, producer and mentor R. Kelly. The album sold three million copies in the U.S. and was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.

Following allegations of an illegal marriage to R. Kelly, Aaliyah made the switch to Atlantic Records where she went on to record her second album, One in a Million, with producers Missy Elliott and Timbaland. Aaliyah's sophomore album sold 3.7 million copies in the U.S. and over eight million worldwide.

Aaliyah appeared in her first film, Romeo Must Die, in 2000 which spawned her hit single, Try Again. The song went on to top the Billboard Hot 100 solely on airplay, which made Aaliyah the first artist in Billboard history to achieve this honor. Try Again earned Aaliyah a Grammy Award nomination for Best Female R&B Vocalist.

In July of 2001, Aaliyah release her third and final album Aaliyah, before she died in a tragic plane crash in the Bahamas on August 25, 2001.
