Paula Julie Abdul has made quite a name for herself with an array of talents that include singer-songwriter, dancer, choreographer, actress and television personality. She began her career as a cheerleader for the Los Angeles Lakers right out of High School, and went on to become one of the most sought-after choreographers in the 1980s.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s,Paula Abdul released a slew of number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, which tied her with Diana Ross for sixth place among female solo performers who topped the chart.

The music video for Opposites Attract won Paula Abdul a Grammy Award for "Best Music Video - Short Form" and took home the Primetime Emmy Award for "Outstanding Choreography."

Paula Abdul went on to be an original judge on American Idol in the early 2000s, and left after eight seasons to star on the CBS series Live To Dance. The show ended after just one season. Paula also appeared as a judge on the American version of The X Factor with Simon Cowell, made a guest judge appearance on Dancing With the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance. Most recently Paula Abdul became a permanent judge on the Australian version of So You Think You Can Dance for the show's 2014 revival.
