Shakira is a Colombian singer, songwriter, record producer, dancer, choreographer and model. She was born and raised in Barranquilla, and began performing while in school. She recorded her first studio album in the early 1990s, which didn't really take off, but followed that up in Latin America with her major-label debut of Pies Descalzos in 1996.

In 2002,Shakirabrought her music to the english-language market with the release of her fifth studio album, Laundry Service. The lead track, "Whenever, Wherever", became the best selling song of 2002. Following the success of her fifth album, Shakira went on to record her sixth and seventh albums, Oral Fixation, Vol. 1 and Oral Fixation, Vol. 2. The album spawned Shakira's hit single "Hips Don't Lie" which became the best-selling song of the 21st century.

Shakira has won many awards throughout her career including five MTV Video Music Awards, two Grammy Awards, eight Latin Grammy Awards, seven Billboard Music Awards, twenty-eight Billboard Latin Music Awards, and a Golden Globe nomination. She also has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Shakira has sold more the 65 millions albums worldwide, which makes her the third best selling Latin artist of all time.
