The manhunt for Richard Matt and David Sweat has moved into its 17th day, and more than one thousand law enforcement officers are converging on the area of Owls Head in Franklin County.

New York State continue to aggressively pursue each and every lead, and law enforcement have evidence to believe that the two inmates spent time at a hunting camp in the area. Forensic evidence proves that DNA of Matt and Sweat was found in a cabin that had been broken into near Saranac Lake.

In a news conference that was held on Monday, Cattaragus County Undersheriff Robert Buchhardt said,

"You have two very bad individuals who are running around at large right now. These people need to be caught by law enforcement and locked back up before an innocent civilian or a police officer gets hurt in this thing. We know that one of these days, one of these leads are going to pan out."
