Western New Yorkers, especially the vast local music community, are mourning the loss of a legend.

Ted Reinhardt, also known as the "rhythm machine", was killed along with two others with ties to WNY, in a small plane crash in Virginia.

The trio were returning to the hometown of the pilot, Canisius graduate Mike Buxton, when they lost radio contact upon the flight's final approach.

Reinhardt was inducted into the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame in 1985, played with Spyro Gyra in the 70s, and was a founding member of the Jazz Fusion band Gamalon.
