Buffalo, New York is 6,641 miles away from PyeongChang, South Korea. Well, Next month, some of our very own, from Western New York will be making the trek for the 2018 Winter Olympic. Some of the notable names are former Saber Hockey players, Derek Roy and Marc-Andre Gragnani.  There are also some WNY athletes coming back for more.  Both New Hartford's Erin Hamlin and Saranac Lake native Andrew Weibrecht are hoping to turn their bronze medals into gold.   Erin will compete in the Luge and Andrew in Alpine skiing.

There are also some WNW newbies to watch out for,  here are more of our very own, new to the Olympics: Newcomer Codie Bascue of Whitehall will be driving the four-man bobsled for Team USA.  Also, keep an eye for Rochester native Morgan Schild on the freestyle ski moguls course.  Here she is just a few years back:

How just sooooo cool is she?

I mentioned the Sabre guys at the top, but the U.S. Men's Ice Hockey team includes several other athletes from Upstate New York: Brian Gionta (forward, Rochester), Jordan Greenway (Canton) and David Leggio (goalie, from Buffalo). There is also Maddie Phaneuf from Lake Placid, she will compete in the Biathlon.  Oh, and can't forget Emily Pfalzer, our own Buffalonian.  Emily will play for the Women's hockey team.  They will all make WNY proud!   The 2018 U.S. Olympic Team is expected to reach approximately 240 athletes, our athletes are of course extra special :)  The games begin February 9th.
