Lockport Woman Saves $8K in 6 Months With Coupons + Shares Her Tips [AUDIO]
On the heels of our piece about how you're probably wasting tons of money every day, I received a text from a Lockport woman named Jessica who claimed to have saved about $8,000 since June 2015, by just using coupons!
Now from someone who wants to hang the Target receipt on her fridge when she saves over $4 (that's me...), that's pretty impressive. So I HAD to ask her how she did it!
Jessica says she uses Dede's coupon page (you can order coupons you would use) as well as a Facebook group called Nycole's Couponterage. She also wanted us to relay to you that Walmart will price-match any other store's price as long as you show them the flyer. She's got this down to a science!
In case you missed it, the original piece was from Forbes magazine, who know a little something about money! The top four ways we (especially young people) waste money are:
- Renting a place we can't afford: The rule of thumb is don't spend more than 30% of your budget on rent. Unfortunately, lots of young people feel like they need that sweet pad, especially when they have their first full time gig. Dangerous territory here!
- Little things we don't really need: Getting coffee out every morning (average $3/cup, that's $15/week, which is $780 a year, on something that costs pennies to do at home).
- Ordering take-out: Laziness contributes to this. When you get home and are too tired to cook, you order food and end up spending $20, $30, $40 on stuff that would take a couple bucks to throw together yourself.
- WANTS vs. NEEDS: Shelling out an extra $15/month for a premium cable channel so you can watch ONE show, especially one that will be on Netflix or at your friend's house in a month.
