Michael Douglas, the Oscar winning actor, said he is confident of having beaten cancer after being told by doctors a tumor in his throat had disappeared.

In an interview with Matt Lauer on NBC's Today, Douglas said Monday "I feel good, relieved".

"The tumor is gone. But, you know, I have to check out on a monthly basis now to maintain. I guess there's not a total euphoria. I'll probably take a couple of months of getting checked out."

Douglas, 66, lost 32 pounds during cancer treatment, but lately has been "eating like a pig."

He told the Today Show, he is working out and even planning for an forthcoming film role as famed pianist Liberace.
