An East Aurora mother is facing charges after a fire trapped her family inside their mobile home.

Authorities say that 28-year-old Kirstin Kelly was extremely intoxicated when she attempted to cook on a gas stove, and then fell asleep. A fire broke out in the area above the stove before spreading to the rest of the kitchen, and eventually throughout the house.

A neighbor is being considered a hero after he ran into the mobile home to rescue Kirstin Kelly and her children.

The children, ages 5, 4 and 1 month, were treated at the hospital for smoke inhalation and released to the custody of family members.

Kirstin Kelly was charged with reckless endangerment, endangering the welfare of a children, and assault. She was arraigned and taken to the Erie County Holding Center with $1,000 bail.

Kirstin Kelly will appear in court this Wednesday.
