New research is confirming what similar studies have noted for a while now; a drink a day can help women avoid strokes - a medical emergency that strikes more women than men in America. The study, published in the most recent issue of the American Heart Association publication Stroke, was based on research from another study of over 80,000 women, followed for 26 years.  The researchers found that moderate drinkers - a glass or so of wine, one mixed drink, or a beer - had a lower stroke risk than women who drank at a higher than moderate rate [women who didn't drink were found to have a fairly low rate to begin with].
