New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has ordered flags to be flown at half mast throughout the state during Whitney Houston's funeral this Saturday.

Christie labeled Houston a "cultural icon" who belongs in the same category in New Jersey music history as legends like Sinatra, Count Basie and Springsteen and went on to say her accomplishments in the music industry are "a great source of pride for the people of the state."

It should be noted that flags are typically flown at half staff in honor of police and military personnel killed in the line of duty also following the deaths of legislators in the state. New Jersey flags have also been lowered to pay tribute to other local music legends most recently Clarence Clemons, of the E Street band.

The decision to lower flags has been met with some criticism...what do you think?
