A dog is slowly recovering after being rescued from a home in Tonawanda. The SPCA responded to reports of a dead dog in the basement of a home on Milford Avenue, but when authorities arrived, they discovered that the dog was still alive. The Shih Tzu's body was covered with nearly four pounds of matted fur, several broken bones and other illnesses.

It took the SPCA nearly three hours to shave the matted fur and take care the dog's wounds.

Ronald and Shelley Breier are each charged with animal cruelty, and will appear in Buffalo Court later this month.

Veterinary professionals say that the "Dori's" condition (as she is now called) is looking up, and they believe that she will eventually be able to be adopted.
