Forget helicopter parenting, there is a new trend and it is called...

For the last decade, helicopter parenting has been the new thing. We want to try to protect our kids from everything. We really can't do this as they don't learn from their mistakes. The new trend? Let's welcome, "Lawnmower parenting."

This is when a parent "mows down" any potential negative experience from happening to their child. According to a teacher who wrote an essay about it,  "Lawnmower parents go to whatever lengths necessary to prevent their child from having to face adversity, struggle, or failure."

This isn't preparing kids for the real world. As much as it hurts us and them they need to learn how to pick themselves back up. It is part of life. Life isn't full of sunshine and rainbows and sometimes people don't play by the rules. You have to give your kids the tools to succeed and this is not how you do it.

What is even more disturbing about this essay is that the teacher wrote about her experience with one of her students. The student forgot her water bottle at school and didn't want to drink from the water fountain, so her Mother left work early to bring her a water bottle. Unreal.
