Ted’s Hot Dogs officially announced on April 7 plans to locate the company’s newest restaurant on Chippewa Street in downtown Buffalo.

The upcoming location is anticipated to open in the summer. The location will spotlight the restaurant's historic significance to the city, featuring a distinctive design that recalls the history of Ted’s Hot Dogs and its origins on Buffalo’s west side near the Peace Bridge.

The Chippewa location will be Ted’s Hot Dogs ninth restaurant in Western New York. The company also maintains a location in Tempe, AZ.

“We’ve had our eye on the city for quite some time, as there is definitely a vibe in downtown Buffalo that is making the area attractive to new businesses and those wanting to be part of the urban resurgence” said Joe Drust, Chief Executive Officer of Ted’s Hot Dogs, in a press release.

Initial plans for the Chippewa Street location include the customized interior design theme that “everything old is new again.”

Additional design elements include:

  • A re-creation of the original toolshed location from under the Peace Bridge where Ted’s Hot Dogs got its start in 1927.
  • Indoor seating and dining areas that offer a more casual backyard BBQ experience and not a typical fast food restaurant setting.
  • A new patio to relax and “escape the city hustle and bustle,” featuring custom outdoor bench-style seating, greenery and unique lighting.

“The company settled on a great location in the Chippewa Entertainment District that will allow us to institute a really iconic and memorable restaurant design, while at the same time appealing to a number of different customer audiences,” Drust said in the release.

“We expect a steady lunch crowd of downtown office workers, tourists and visitors staying at any of the five hotels in the adjacent area, folks doing business at the new Delaware North headquarters, families and sports fans taking in Bisons, Bandits and Sabres games, as well as all those Buffalonians out for a night on the town.”

The location will also test and introduce an online ordering system, allowing customers to pre-order and pick-up at a designated time.

The family-owned and operated business was founded in 1927.
