On Tuesday, New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo proposed that New York give free college to students.

To qualify, the household must make less than $125,000 per year and the State will pay for students' education at state SUNY schools and universities.

It would cost the State $163 million PER year. Of course, the Excelsior College program proposal would still need to pass Legislation for the fiscal year starting April 1. According to WRGZ:

It is going to be the first program like it in the United States of America. It’s once again New York leading the way.” Cuomo announced his proposal -- which he called the Excelsior College program -- alongside Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, who pushed for free tuition during his presidential bid last year.
