Central-NY-based Chobani Yogurt CEO Hamdi Ulukaya, a Turkish immigrant, just announced he's giving 10 percent of the company to his employees.

This means full time employees across the country – including at its headquarters in Norwich, NY (Chenango County) – will have ownership stake in the private company, when it goes public.

Ulukaya said:

This isn't a gift. It's a mutual promise to work together with a shared purpose and responsibility. To continue to create something special and of lasting value.

What's that? You didn't realize Chobani was from New York state? Yup! It started in 2007 with a small business loan and FIVE employees, right in New Berlin, NY.  It now boasts over 2,000 employees across the country, and $1 billion in revenue.

Ulukaya has been a supporter of higher minimum wage and has hired hundreds of refugees fleeing areas of terror. He also supports the Giving Pledge, an initiative of Warren Buffet and Bill and Melinda Gates', encouraging billionaires to share the wealth.
